Аннотация
The integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) into archaeological research has transformed the way scholars study, document, and preserve historical heritage. In Turkmenistan, a country rich in ancient monuments and Silk Road heritage, the use of GIS-based platforms—such as the proposed “Ancient Monuments of Turkmenistan” website—presents new opportunities for the digital preservation, visualization, and spatial analysis of archaeological sites. This paper explores how GIS technologies can enhance historical and archaeological research by enabling interactive mapping, temporal data layering, predictive modeling, and public engagement. By analyzing case studies and methodologies, this study emphasizes the potential of a centralized, GIS-powered website to revolutionize heritage documentation, aid in cultural preservation, and support scholarly and educational use.
