Аннотация

The rapid development of artificial intelligence has significantly influenced the field of translation, particularly through the growing use of AI-based tools in literary translation. While such technologies offer efficiency and accessibility, their ability to preserve pragmatic meaning in literary texts remains a subject of scholarly debate. This article examines the pragmatic aspects of translating Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray into Uzbek using artificial intelligence. The novel is characterized by rich irony, implicit meanings, stylistic subtlety, and complex communicative intentions, which pose serious challenges for automated translation systems.

The article argues that AI-assisted translation of literary texts should be approached as a supportive tool rather than a fully autonomous solution. The results highlight the necessity of human intervention to ensure pragmatic adequacy and stylistic authenticity. This research contributes to the ongoing discussion on the limitations and possibilities of artificial intelligence in literary translation and offers insights for translators, linguists, and researchers working at the intersection of pragmatics and translation studies.
