Аннотация

This paper synthesizes current scholarly discourse on the symbiotic relationship between content learning and foreign language acquisition across varied academic disciplines. Situated within the frameworks of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and Content-Based Instruction (CBI), this synthesis examines how subject-specific knowledge acquisition interacts with second/foreign language development (L2). Rather than viewing foreign language proficiency as a mere prerequisite for academic inquiry, modern pedagogical theory demonstrates that L2 acquisition and discipline-specific conceptual development operate through a reciprocal, mutually reinforcing dynamic. In STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, foreign language medium instruction emphasizes precision, structured syntax, and nominalization, shifting cognitive demands toward abstract problem-solving and domain-specific lexicon. In the Social Sciences, L2 integration fosters critical discourse analysis, perspective-taking, and contextual negotiation, transforming linguistic competence into a tool for ideological interrogation. In the Humanities, language and content coalesce entirely; textual analysis, hermeneutics, and cultural nuance rely on sophisticated L2 register, morphology, and stylistic awareness. Across all fields, dual-focused instruction presents cognitive challenges, including high cognitive load and instructional friction, while concurrently enhancing metacognitive awareness, cognitive flexibility, and academic literacy. By examining disciplinary variations, scaffolding mechanisms, and pedagogical models, this paper highlights the necessity of aligning language objectives with disciplinary discourse markers, offering a holistic overview of integrated curriculum design in higher and secondary education.
